This is the module 2 of the full programme on SMU Professional Certificate in Technology and Operations - (IBF Level 1). Financial institutions are heavily supported by the IT systems and with increased use of technology, there is increased IT risk and thus the need to have a robust security in place to guard the systems. Participants will get a good understanding of the various risks, threats and vulnerabilities faced by financial institutions and the mitigation actions and governance disciplines that may be incorporated in the Technology and Operations to control and contain possible IT risks and security concerns.

In this topic, you will learn about the governance principles, risk management concepts and compliance policies and procedures that are typically established by financial institutions applicable to meet the regulatory and internal compliance requirements.
Introduction to IT Threats, Vulnerabilities and Risk
In this topic you will learn about the security threats, vulnerabilities, risks, and laws and regulations to perform reviews, identify gaps and implement controls. It will cover also the enterprise wide risks of financial institutions, and the major risks relating to Technology and Operations functions so as to enhance your awareness of the possible mitigation actions you may consider.

There will be numerous case studies for you to relate to the concepts and methodologies taught in the course.

Who Should Attend
This two-day course is particularly relevant for recent polytechnic/ university graduates, entry level professionals and those in the early stages of their career or looking for a career change to the IT risk and security space. It is also suitable for anyone who wants to gain a basic knowledge of this critical area.
There will be an assessment comprising MCQs that will be conducted towards the end of the course module.
Upon successful completion of the course, you will receive a SMU Certificate in IT Risk, Governance and Security (IBF Level 1). This course is one of the five modules accredited under the IBF Standards and stacks up to a full IBF-accredited programme - SMU Professional Certificate in Technology and Operations (IBF Level 1).
You may wish to register for Cybersecurity Fundamentals Certificate exam offered by the Information Systems Audit and Control Association (ISACA) separately. This certificate is aligned with the National Institutes of Standards and Technology (NIST) National Initiative for Cybersecurity Education (NICE), which is compatible with global cybersecurity issues, activities and job roles.
